Václav Havel memorial evening
Starting with 2012, in early January each year, the MFF is organising an evening in the memory of Václav Havel, the last Czechoslovak president and the first Czech president.
The event is traditionally held close to the date of proclamation of the Czechoslovak Charter 77 (Havel was arrested on January 6, 1977 for signing this famous document).
The evenings are attended both by prominent Belarusians, including those that were personally acquainted with Havel, and Czech politicians and public figures. Honouring of Václav Havel’s memory in our country is not accidental: as the Czech president and while in retirement he made a lot to promote Belarus’s democratisation. No wonder the MFF leader Alaksandr Milinkevich calls him “the ambassador of Belarus to Europe”.
